In the Connecting Aussie Startups Global Panel, mediated by Tim Brewer with Steve Baxter, Alexandra Grigg, Alex Dunmow, Eliza, and Mikaela Greene, many interesting topics were discussed, such as challenges founders face finding investors in Perth, and for women in the industry, experiences in investing in deals and importance of investing in new technologies. Well known shark Steve Baxter also stated that “Australia is home to just 0.3% of the world’s population and accounts for 1.7% of the global economy. That’s why startups need to think global from day 1 if you are going to have a shot at scaling up.”
Mikaela Greene and Eliza Greene, on the other hand, defended the strategy of investing regionally and growing gradually, while presenting their journey as Pro Surfers from regional WA to founders of the tech company MyTab. Dunmow, CEO of Ninja Syndicate has also shared his experience as a founder in WA and the need for investors to look to Perth as an innovation hub, as it shares the same timezone with more than 60% of the world population and the optimal geographical location with great deals opportunities with South-Asia.
The breakfast also included the launch of Vici Ventures, a venture partner built with the Visagio Platform, and also a new partner to Perth Angels, providing organisational and event support. The event ended with Greg Riebe, Vice-Chairperson of Perth Angels, wrapping up the proceedings. Attendees then had the opportunity to network and speak with the presenters.
